Altice Labs, in collaboration with the Centro Cirúrgico de Coimbra (CCC), is currently developing a software for the diagnosis of Glaucoma in its early stages, which is described in the presented article.
This disease can often go undetected due to the absence of noticeabled symptoms at an initial stage. Glaucoma is progressive in nature and leads to a gradual loss of peripheral vision and central vision that is not recoverable, and, when left untreated, can progress to total and irreversible blindness.
The work developed aims to create a “Machine Learning” system, through algorithms that extract patterns, from large amounts of data present in the eye exams of anonymized CCC patients. The integration of this Artificial Intelligence technique into clinical practice has great potential to revolutionize the early detection and treatment of this disease.
